Our Education Programs in India Are Making A Difference

CNH Industrial pledges to broaden underprivileged children’s access to education for a brighter future

Education plays a vital role in the growth and development of a nation. Whether it is making learning resources available and affordable or raising children’s awareness of its importance for their future, progress happens when education is accessible to all.

The English philosopher Herbert Spencer famously said that “the great aim of education is not knowledge, but action.”

CNH Industrial has launched a series of projects in India to provide free education for disadvantaged children. These programs give children a foundation for becoming self-sufficient in their lives and careers.

Issues in need of support

Our Noida plant employs some 3,000 people, over half of which come from the nearby villages and communities. Through them, the Company has insight into the available facilities, levels of education, living conditions, and deprivation in these communities.

Post-Covid, many children have lost their parents or other family members who were contributing to their education. As a result, they have no way to pay for school fees and live in very poor conditions. Many of them are in orphanages or with relatives who are unable to take care of their education. Due to lockdown, schools were closed, and with almost no means of online education many of these children lost touch with the schools and never went back.

Our response

In March 2022 we expanded our educational Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. We pledged educational support to these children through three initiatives which aim to provide financial assistance to those who have experienced significant economic hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Project Unnati

This initiative provides scholarships to 70 school children and students from 30 Industrial Training Institutes in Greater Noida, Noida, Gurugram and Delhi. It also includes an employee-student mentorship program where our employees dedicate their time to mentoring and guiding students, sharing their knowledge, experience, and skills to prepare them for the real world.

Project Udaan

This initiative aims to empower socio-economically disadvantaged women by providing scholarship support for four years of engineering college. The program includes a 600-hour curriculum focused on technical skills and advanced technology, in addition to developing soft skills, communication, English proficiency, career readiness, and corporate etiquette.

Mission Education

This is an ongoing project that began in 2016 where the students receive free education and support, including books, learning material and student health kits.

“Through our education CSR projects, we help underprivileged school children live better lives by enabling them to continue their studies and financially supporting their school education,” said Kavita Sah, CSR Manager India, CNH Industrial. “Before our involvement, attendance was between 30 – 40 percent and has now increased to an average of 95 percent. Not only that, but more girls are also coming to school and since we got involved, all the children are finishing their education.”

Education should be a universal right and every step taken to make it more accessible benefits society. These small steps taken by CNH Industrial have the potential to provide lasting benefits for future generations.

And they are another example of how we are Breaking New Ground, making a positive difference in the lives of our customers and in the communities where we work.
